Forty in Fiji.. and other F words

Well, I turned 40 on holiday in Fiji a couple of weeks ago.

It would have been a wonderful way to reach a new milestone....

... had my period not started the night before.

Fuck.

IVF #1 COSTS

14/2/11

* FS initial appointment - $140 total out of pocket (after Medicare rebate), both of us were billed individually

11/3/11

* DP's Testicular Biopsy - $1008 day surgery fee (no Medicare rebate, PHF n/a as vasectomy classed as pre-existing illness & policy not held 12mths), FS surgery fee $365 & anaesthetist fee $102 (after Medicare rebates)

21/3/11

* FS subsequent consult to discuss next action - $100 ($87 back from Medicare as threshold reached - $13 out of pocket)

* Blood test for both of us - hormone levels, iron, rubella etc. - $128.50 (waiting for Medicare rebate)

29/3/11

* Synarel nasal spray provided by IVF Aust nurse - $70 out of pocket (after private health rebate of $50, no Medicare rebate)

22/4/11

* EPU - Egg Pick-Up / Collection - $250 excess paid to the clinic for day surgery (using private health insurance). Expecting additional bills in the mail from the FS & anaesthetist for this.

26/4/11 (1 day b4 ET)

* $7,540 deducted from credit cards for treatment cycle. Medicare rebate of $4,964 received 3/5/11 ($2,575 out of pocket)

*** so far, ICSI cycle #1 = $4651 ***

UPDATE:

ICSI cycle #4 = approx $6000 out of pocket

(first one this calendar year so lower Medicare rebate - safety net not yet reached)
